Jin
Fast Facts:
Languages: Jin*
No. of speakers: 1,000,000
Christians: <2%
Location: Asia**
Project start date: 2006
Expected completion: beyond 2025
Goals:
Translate the New Testament and parts of the Old Testament.
Improve the lives of the people through community development projects.
The Jin people live in a mountainous region in Asia. Many are farmers who grow rice, corn and other crops. The lack of commercial and industrial development makes it difficult for them to find jobs locally, and many adults go to bigger cities to find work.
The Jin people speak their own language for social and religious purposes rather than the national language. However, many cannot read or write in their own language.
Their traditional religious practices are a mix of animism and ancestor worship. Only about 1% of the population is Christian, and believers often face persecution from their families and communities.
