Description

Wycliffe Bible Translators Singapore (Wycliffe Singapore) is a missions organisation that mobilises individuals and churches for Bible translation, literacy, community development and other ministries. We also support our missionaries serving overseas by providing budgeting and financial services, member care and liaising with their supporting churches.

Wycliffe Singapore also desires to also support our partner organisations in the region. One way is through building capacity by helping their members improve their English. This will help them communicate with multinational teams and write reports. Mother-tongue translators will also benefit if they are able to read commentaries and resources which are mainly in English.

About the role:

The first series of classes for about 42 adults from our Indonesian partners began in August 2021. The students are mostly university graduates and have some level of English proficiency (Beginner to Intermediate). After the assessment, they were grouped into 4 classes by proficiency. Resources/curriculum will be provided to help teachers plan their lessons.

There will be two teachers assigned to each class. Lessons (1 hour each) will be conducted twice a week on Zoom. Each pair of teachers may arrange between themselves to teach together or take alternate lessons.

Teachers must be able to commit to teaching for a minimum of 3 months. More series of classes are being planned for the future although the dates are not yet firm.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare lesson plans and conduct the lessons on Zoom.

  • Lessons should focus more on oral communication than grammar.

Requirements:

  • A committed Christian who desires to serve God in the area of missions.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience teaching English to second-language speakers and a TESOL qualification would be an advantage.
